American Football USA
Are you ready for some American Football?
AFUSA puts YOU in the coach’s headset for an epic version of the WORLD'S GREATEST SPORT (according to Americans)!
Calling Plays
- Long Pass (WR): More potential yards, but higher risk of turnovers.
- Short Pass (RB/WR): Moderate yards and risk.
- Run (RB): Less yards and risk. Inflicts damage to the other team (see below).
Play Styles
- There are 6 play style options (e.g. Quick, Careful) that cycle randomly from play to play.
- The play type (run/pass) does not affect the play styles that appear.
Blitzes
- The other team will try to guess your play type (Run/Short/Long) based on your previous play calls.
- Try to be unpredictable. (It doesn’t cheat, I promise!)
- If they guess correctly, they will shift to a BLITZ formation.
- This means your chance of success will go down and your team potentially takes extra injury damage.
Defense
- When the other team gets the ball, you will choose a single Defensive Strategy.
- The closer they are to the end zone when they get the ball, the more likely they will score.
The Clock
- The entire game is 10 minutes. There are no quarters.
- The clock keeps running after every play, no matter the play type.
- If you take more than 20 seconds to pick a play, you will get a Delay of Game penalty, which also results in loss of down.
- When you get possession of the ball, you automatically take a timeout and give a Pep Talk to your team. (see below)
- There is no manual way to call a timeout.
- With 20 seconds left in the game, you will have the option to make a final play or run out the clock.
Injuries
(Note: The AFUSA League officially has player safety as its #1 priority. That said, injuries are rewarded, and are a great opportunity for corporate sponsors.)
- Run plays do damage to the other team.
- Brutal & Power plays also inflict damage. (Brutal Runs do the most damage.)
- Getting Sacked and Blitzed does damage to your team.
- Damage adds up on both teams until there is an injury.
- Your Star Player risks taking damage every time they are in a play.
- The lower the Star Player's Toughness rating, the more likely they will get injured.
Pep Talks
- Each game, your team is affected by a different style of pep talk more than others. (e.g. Angry vs Sentimental)
- Once you find the style that offers the highest bonus (16%), try to remember to always choose that style.
Scoring
Touchdowns (No 2pt conversions.) | 7 points |
Field Goals | 3 points |
Injuries Caused | 2 points |
Safeties | 2 points |
Tie Breaker
- In the case of a tie at the end of the game, you win if your Star Player is still Healthy (not injured).
Randomness
- All random percentages are pulled from two “decks” of numbers: one deck for the “tens” digit and one deck for the “ones” digit. (e.g. [3] and [7] = 37)
- This will even out your luck over the course of the game.
- It also means you can try to intuit when you are due for some good or bad luck and make your choices accordingly.
Coach Salary
The is the most important thing, right? It is based on the following:
Each Point | +$10k |
Winning the Game | +$100k |
Star Player is Healthy | +$50k |
Comeback Victory (from down 10+ points) | +$50k |
