Historical Note
The Alamo has been mythologized in American history as a group of underdogs fighting in the name of "freedom", but unfortunately, the reality is less noble and inspiring.
In 1835, Texas was a territory of Mexico. The growing population of American settlers that migrated to Texas eventually revolted, largely motivated by their desire to continue owning slaves, which Mexico had abolished many years earlier.
Strategically, Sam Houston himself felt the Alamo was of little importance, and sent Bowie and his men to dismantle the fort. Instead, the men decided to remain there and defend it. The eventual battle did not have a significant impact on the war.
Despite all this, the Alamo is still an interesting setting for a game. It was originally an entry for Ludum Dare 50 (Theme: "Delay the Inevitable").
